About the UMWP

The Upper Maumee Watershed Partnership is a locally-led group of concerned citizens and organizations whose primary goal is the improvement of water quality throughout the Upper Maumee River Watershed and ultimately throughout the Western Lake Erie Basin.

As we continue to expand our membership and activities, our focus is the implementation of a watershed management plan and best management practices. Additionally, events and other public outreach programs are held to further communities’ awareness of water quality.

Our Mission

To protect and restore the Upper Maumee River Watershed through public education and participation via planning and implementation of best management practices with the goal of improving local and regional water quality, increasing habitat quality, promoting sustainable land use practices and providing recreational opportunities that improve the ecological health of the region.

The Upper Maumee
Sub-Watersheds

The Upper Maumee Watershed consists of 14 sub-watersheds over 4 counties in Indiana and Ohio. The Maumee River originates in Fort Wayne and flows northeasterly through the City of Defiance, on to Toledo and eventually into Lake Erie.
